Below is an overview of the services Barkuma provides. At Barkuma, we aim to provide friendly, culturally appropriate services to our Aboriginal community, including our Elders and younger people with challenged abilities.

Social Support
At Barkuma, we have a regular social group who meet for lunch and activities. This social group offers support for Aboriginal Elders, younger people with challenged abilities and their carers who reside in Cessnock or Maitland LGA. In order to attend these groups, participants need to call Community Care Access Point to see if they are eligible. The number to call is 1300 731 556.

Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA)
The purpose of the EAPA Scheme is to help customers who are experiencing a financial crisis or emergency and need help to pay their home electricity and/or natural gas (energy) bills. The Scheme is designed to help these customers stay connected to essential energy services. It is a crisis scheme and not intended to offer ongoing income support. Hunter Water Account Assistance Program
If you are a residential customer finding it hard to pay your water bill, Hunter Water can help by providing advice and assistance to help manager your water bill. The scheme is designed to assist customers that are concerned about how they will pay water bills for their current residence.
There are several options available:
- Payment Assistance Scheme (PAS) - Home owners and tenants within a private rental that are responsible to pay usage may be eligible for assistance. This is emergency relief assistance not intended for ongoing bills
- Flexible Payment Options
- Essential Plumbing Assistance Program - Home owners may be eligible for assistance with essential plumbing issues
