Neighbourhood Centre

Located in Kurri Kurri, in the Hunter Valley NSW, Barkuma Neighbourhood Centre Inc. has been serving the Aboriginal community since 1994.

As a not-for-profit community organisation, we offer a "home away from home" environment, place of identity and sense of belonging.

Servicing Cessnock and Maitland local government areas and the Dungog Shire, Barkuma is proud to provide high quality and culturally appropriate services to a wide range of clients.

Our Services

Services page is an overview of the services Barkuma provides. At Barkuma, we aim to provide friendly, culturally appropriate services to our Aboriginal community, including our Elders and younger people with challenged abilities.

Barkuma Hut

Barkuma Hut is an interactive community space. Anyone is welcome to drop in during opening hours, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. You might be looking for someone to have a yarn with, maybe you want to chill out and read a book or watch tv. We have a hands-on sensory room, come and imagine yourself amongst a dreamtime story or two.

Binarri Jinama-Gu

'Binarri Jinama-Gu is located a short 10-minute drive from Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Proudly located on Awabakal Country. This relaxed, nature space is host to a range of indigenous cultural experiences – an incredible space to connect to country and learn.
