Barkuma Neighbourhood Centre

Barkuma Neighbourhood Centre

Barkuma Neighbourhood Centre Inc. has been serving the Aboriginal community since 1994. We offer a place of identity and belonging for our community. As some would say a "home away from home" environment. Barkuma is a not-for-profit community organisation. Over the years we've delivered services that covered Cessnock and Maitland LGA's as well as Dungog Shire. We now have expanded some of our services to also include Newcastle, Port Stephens, Central Coast and the Upper Hunter.

Browse our web site for more information about Barkuma and our services. If you have any questions or would like to speak with a staff member, please call us on 02 4937 1094 or e-mail us.

About Us

Barkuma Neighbourhood Centre Inc offers the highest quality of services in the Hunter today. Since 1994, we have provided culturally appropriate services to our clients and have assisted them in achieving their goals. Our years of experience and commitment have helped lift the profile of our Aboriginal Community.

Our Story

Barkuma Neighbourhood Centre Inc, was established in 1994 as a result of a community meeting held in Cessnock Council hall. Deb Dacey facilitated the meeting to give our local aboriginal community a chance to come together and discuss their needs. Community identified a need to have a welcoming place for them to go for support and assistance without prejudice, hence Barkuma was born.
