Offering social support to our Indigenous Elders and younger people with a disability to enable them to live independently in their own homes.

Community volunteers assist with this program. Their help is always appreciated!!

CULTURAL AWARENESS

Barkuma offers cultural advice, advocacy and training to the wider community and mainstream services. This helps to meet the needs of the Indigenous community by helping services to understand and become aware of our culture and values.

This can be in the way of:

  • Cultural Awareness Training
  • Bushtucker Catering
  • Cultural Workshops
  • Murals and Artwork
  • Etc, etc, etc...

BARKUMA BUUNJI FAMILY VIOLENCE PROJECT

This project is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are experiencing violence in their current home and wish to move forward. This is the first step in the road to recovery for victims. This project is for females, males, parents, youth, children, singles and grandparents.

This project supports you with:

  • Support/Advocacy/Referrals
  • Self help workshops
  • Support groups
  • Activities
  • And more...

BUSHTUCKER GARDEN

Walk through our garden and discover how organisations can incorporate nature and our culture into the workplace.

Have a chat and a cuppa in the garden.

If you would like to help our garden grow through donations and volunteers, please talk to our staff.

We also sell a range of bushtucker plants, call in and see Annie for more info.

EAPA ASSISTANCE

EAPA is a NSW Government Scheme designed to help people who are experiencing difficulty in paying their electricity and/or gas bill because of crisis or emergency situation.

Barkuma has EAPA vouchers to be used in Cessnock Local Government Area. Call to see if you are eligible, conditions apply
